ARES is the Amateur Radio Emergency Service, which is sponsored by the ARRL. The ARES now consists of approximately 80,000 licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes. Every licensed amateur is eligible for membership in the ARES, you do not have to be a member of the ARRL. The operational leadership of ARES consists of approximately 2500 local and district emergency coordinators, along with the section EC's. At this time the DCARC provides a training net on Tuesday nights at 7:00 on the Forsyth Amateur Radio Club repeater at 145.470 with a PL of 100. For more information go to the ARES page on the ARRL website.
